A few of the teams I’ve helped

Johnson & Johnson

  • J&J needed a vision for how to compete in world where Amazon, social media, direct-to-consumer brands and the explosion of data and AI are fundamentally transforming the CPG industry.

My team and I led a highly collaborative process to design a vision for J&J’s future AI-driven consumer insights platform and validate it with stakeholders and representative users across the organization.

The project yielded a “north star” vision and product roadmap for a robust yet easy-to-use platform powered by machine learning to deliver game-changing customer insights at scale—when and where team members need them.

IBM Civil Engineering

  • In the wake of a bridge collapse in Italy that killed 43 people, IBM pledged to develop advanced inspection technology to dramatically increase the safety of civil infrastructure.  My team and I were engaged to facilitate a highly collaborative process—across IBM R&D teams spanning from Stamford to Zurich to Haifa, and featuring co-design sessions with civil engineers from across Europe—to envision the future of civil infrastructure inspection.

My team and I designed an end to end user experience for civil engineers which replaces today’s costly manual, paper-based inspection process with the ability to remotely collect and scan high-resolution drone images of large infrastructure like bridges, tunnels, and railways. AI-powered Image Analysis automatically finds, classifies, and prioritizes defects so that the Civil Engineer can quickly review and address critical issues or plan preventative maintenance.

Vidoso

  • Vidoso is a new start-up building a video editing platform that will help enterprises automatically analyze and edit video content created throughout the organization (e.g. from meetings, to sales calls, to product demos, and many more), and post clips to social media with the help of generative AI.

The team had secured seed funding, but needed to quickly launch an MVP in order to demonstrate traction in the marketplace.

Vidoso engaged me and my team to capture the founders’ long-term platform UX vision, develop an extensible platform information architecture based on this vision, and work closely with their development team to design and validate a focused MVP.

Mastercard

  • Mastercard Brighterion had the industry-leading AI-driven financial fraud detection platform, but lacked a strong product strategy and modern UX to drive adoption with data science teams.

My team and I were engaged to understand data scientists’ workflows and identify opportunities to dramatically improve team efficiency, satisfaction and engagement.

The result was a robust design that consolidates the fractured data science toolset, and supports a hyper-efficient end-to-end experience for both novice and advanced data scientists.

BrightInsight

  • My team and I were engaged to lead a unique UX innovation project to envision a better future for cardiac patients by helping surgical and care teams consistently use proven best practices for recover after surgery.

I conducted in-depth interviews with healthcare providers representing every key role involved in cardiac surgery and pre- and post-operative care, and developed and validated a future vision for an AI-driven platform that leads to dramatically improved patient outcomes.

The cardiac surgery teams were thrilled with the concepts, and I was able to use the research findings as part of an innovation planning process to help BrightInsight define a compelling near-term MVP, as well as a longer-term strategic roadmap.

Protect AI

  • As enterprises adopt generative AI, security for large language models (LLMs) becomes increasingly important to prevent data leakage, prompt injection attacks, and more. Protect AI recently acquired Layer, the leading open source LLM security platform, to meet these rapidly evolving needs.

Machine learning teams love Layer’s open source tool, but it was largely command-line based, with little-to-no user interface. The Protect AI team engaged my team and I to quickly envision, validate and design a 0-1 end-to-end commercial MVP experience for Layer.

My team and i delivered a compelling demo, which the Layer team used to make a splash at the 2024 RSA conference.

IBM Aviation

  • IBM’s Aviation team engaged my team and me to lead a blue sky innovation process to generate and validate promising new product ideas to advance the Aviation product portfolio.

We worked closely with Aviation team leadership and subject-matter experts to identify a set of strong candidate ideas, develop and validate the product strategy for each idea, and design a compelling user experience vision for the strongest idea.

The unique innovation and incubation methodology I created for this project enabled the Aviation team to minimize uncertainty about their highest risk product strategy assumptions and pinpoint what would be the most compelling to purchasers—all before designing a single screen or writing a single line of code.

Amalgam Rx

  • Amalgam Rx engaged my team and me to help them design a
generative AI-driven app for Alzheimer’s caregivers. The team needed guidance on best practices for conversational AI and how best to serve the unique needs of caregivers under stress.

I conducted in-depth qualitative and quantitative research with healthcare providers to create a comprehensive framework to determine which symptoms to track, and the priority and frequency of symptom tracking based on clinician best practices.

Then my team and I developed design concepts for the app, and quickly designed all of the key MVP flows in time for Amalgam to launch a beta version at a key industry conference.

Rocket Software (formerly ASG)

  • When ASG (acquired by Rocket Software) approached my team and me for design help, they were facing a significant inflection point. Major players like Google were making massive investments in competitor products, and the team was under pressure to modernize their outdated UX and transform their product to support rapidly evolving AI/ML use cases for data governance.

I facilitated a highly collaborative, multi-month process to re-envision the ASG platform, conduct in-depth research and concept validation with the entire ecosystem of roles involved in data governance, and develop a comprehensive platform and UX strategy for ASG’s digital transformation.

Based in part on the strength of the new platform vision, ASG was acquired by Rocket Software.

Dimensional Fund Advisors

  • Dimensional Fund Advisors, a $527B asset manager best known for its deep roots in academia and systematic approach to investing, engaged me and my team to replace a series of homegrown, disconnected tools with a seamless, integrated AI-driven platform experience for their global portfolio management teams.

My team and I led a highly collaborative process over several years to help the organization gain massive efficiencies by utilizing a set of standard design patterns for AI-driven tools, and at the same time support variation in portfolio strategies, governance, team structures, and processes across diverse geographic regions.

Pratexo

  • In the fall of 2021, Pratexo engaged my team and me to help them create a streamlined user experience for their edge computing platform, which empowers organizations to design and deploy edge networks to solve their most complex operational challenges. Pratexo asked us to quickly envision and design a focused but high-impact MVP to help the team win investment and gain traction in a rapidly evolving market.

The engineering team quickly built an MVP with the design system and prototypes my team and I delivered. Within 6 months of launching the MVP, Pratexo was awarded the “Edge Computer Start-up of the Year.”

Lasa Health

  • Endometriosis is a chronic condition affecting millions of women worldwide, causing debilitating pain and often leading to infertility. Lasa Health, a startup dedicated to improving the lives of endometriosis patients, engaged my team and me to develop the design strategy for a conversational AI app that would provide support, information, and guidance to those living with the condition.

We began by leading the Lasa team through a series of structured desiqn strategy workshops to develop a design strategy hypothesis and then validated this hypothesis through a series of one-on-one interviews with endometriosis patients. This research informed the development of the voice, tone, personality and content of Lasa's conversational AI, ensuring that it would resonate with and effectively support its target audience.

The resulting conversational AI app offers a supportive, understanding, and informative companion for endometriosis patients, empowering them to better manage their condition and improve their overall quality of life.
